Embracing Getting Older with Pro-Age Thinking
From commercials and movies to the beauty products lining the shelves, the message is always the same: ageing is bad. But at Bold Uniq, we believe that getting older is a beautiful thing, and you should wear your wisdom with pride — just like your luscious locks.
But we get it. Erasing the stereotypes surrounding age, and learning to embrace life at every stage can feel difficult. That’s why we want to support you with the tips, tools, and a “pro-ageing” mindset to help you look, feel, and live your best no matter your age.
What is pro-ageing?
Pro-aging represents the idea that you should learn to appreciate your body, appearance, and life as it is right now, rather than trying to turn back the clock.
The benefits of adopting this pro-ageing mindset are scientifically proven. Studies show that people who are content with their age can live up to 7 years longer. Plus, the pro-age lifestyle encourages healthier habits that keep you feeling youthful and energized.
How to start embracing your age
1. Change the negative self-talk.
When you look in the mirror, do you see the wrinkles, or do you see wisdom? Do you see not-so-perky breasts or a body that birthed and raised children?
Instead of letting your negative self-talk control how you view yourself, try reframing these comments to change your self-perception. On one half of a sheet of paper, write down all the negative things you catch yourself thinking or saying throughout the day.
Then, on the other side, put a corresponding positive comment. Now, practice saying these positive phrases out loud to yourself every day and see how it begins to transform your outlook.
2. Do things YOU enjoy.
Take up a new hobby! Find what inspires you and reignites your passion for life to keep you excited and planted in the present.
3. Take time for yourself.
Think about just how much of your youth has been used catering to others. It’s time to reclaim your freedom and say no to the things that no longer serve you.
4. Stay active.
Exercise not only relieves stress and supports your physical health, but it also inspires confidence and strength.
5. Eat right.
Fueling yourself with a colourful, balanced diet supports your mind and body. Don’t worry — it’s still okay to indulge in your favourite dessert every now and then.
6. Create a new self-care routine.
You’re not the same person you were 20, 10, or even a year ago, so you may not be able to use the same products to get the same results. Take time to find what still works for you, and what steps should be added or removed to achieve the look you love.
7. Build friendships with a like-minded community
Surrounding yourself with other women who look, feel, and think like you can help you strengthen this new mindset. You can find encouragement and in turn encourage others to love themselves fully.
Remember, getting older is not a bad thing — it’s a sure thing. And you get to control exactly how you do it. So choose to do it in the most vibrant, beautiful, graceful way possible.
